Standing on the brink of a new year causes one to consider the year that has just about reached completion. This week's international news about Russia banning U.S. adoptions of Russian children caused quite an explosion of thankfulness to take place in our home and hearts. Looking back at our adoption journey in 2012, we have seen God clearly lead us when we came upon our fork in the adoption road.
You see, we were almost one of the statistics caught in the middle of this international feud. By May 2012, we had sent our application into a local adoption agency that specialized in Russian adoptions. We started going down that path. However, God gave us an unsettledness about the journey, the country, the agency, and the social worker. We decided to take some time, step back, pray again about our choices, and see what direction we should go. God led us back to Ethiopia, which was the very country on our hearts 3 years ago when we started considering adoption. With peace and open doors, we continue down that road. If God should close the doors, He will still be good, and we can still trust Him. But, we give Him glory for leading us away from a Russian adoption this year. We didn't understand at the time, but now we do.
Pray for those children who will suffer because of this new law, coming into effect on January 1st. Pray for the families who are caught in the middle, who may have already travelled to meet their new children, only to be told that they cannot complete the adoptions.
And know that you can trust Him when you come to the fork in your road! God is good all the time. He knows every detail of your story. But God has a greater story that He is writing... He is bringing all of this world to the point in history where He will come again, not as a baby, but as the King. Every knee will bow to Him, and we will finally have the peace, justice, and joy that we all yearn for. Looking forward to that day! Are you ready?

Glorious light! see the dawn of Salvation;
Angels in white fill the skies with their wondrous song,
Awakening earth with news of His birth;
Join the hymn of the highest heavens!
Long has the world fought the song of the angels;
Heavenly music is drowned by a warring world;
Yet hope burns a light that shatters the night;
Turn your heart to the call of glory!
Glory to God in the highest!
Peace to men on earth.
Come and adore Him with wonder -
Christ, Lord of Heaven and earth.
There is a day all creation has longed for -
When all of time has been spent and the Lord returns;
His song we'll repeat as heaven completes
Promised peace that will fill the nations!
Glory to God in the highest!
Peace to men on earth.
Come and adore Him with wonder -
Christ, Lord of Heaven and earth.
